Sunstone Suite: Before & After

From a dingy canary yellow and 90s topiary-printed boarder… to a bright and eclectic floral print.

This room was begging for an update since the day we moved in and I’m so glad to finally give her a new look! I couldn’t be happier with how this Morris & Co. Daisy wallpaper turned out. We paired that print with a deeply happy yellow paint in the bathroom: Babouche by Farrow & Ball. The goal was to create a very playful, winsome space where the sun can play on the walls. This room is the best lit in the whole house. Top floor, windows facing three directions, and so much character with ornate mouldings, original pine wide plank floor boards, and a huge bathroom that leads to the only porch in the house! The name for the room - “Sunstone Suite” hearkens to early Mormon history. We want to capture the storytelling, and somewhat magical elements that were present in early Mormon history, in this room.

Get the Look

When we do any projects in the B&B… it’s tricky to block off our guest booking calendar for just enough time to get the job done but still short enough to reopen the room for reserving. Our calendar always fills up through the summer so for a few months the largest gap I had to work with was 2 nights (meaning we’d have 3 days to work essentially) . When I asked Tyler if we should just wait to do the work in the winter when we slow down, he said “No, I got this.”

He enlisted the help of a friend and they were able to finish the job with a full day to spare! I’m genuinely in awe of how good Tyler became at hanging wallpapering after just one other room (Bonneville Suite). He’s got it down to an art for sure. If you’re interested in wallpapering your own room, we’ve put together our “starter pack” of wallpapering tools here. We were pleasantly surprised at how “easy” it is to hang wallpaper - with the big disclaimer that we are pretty handy and have a full shed of tools! If you think you’re up for it, I recommend going for it! I’ll be sharing some of our tips & experience next week too to help you out!
